A Spin-off Summer Ball // The Story of the Almost Abandoned Ball

Hamster Balls

***

As I lounged on Barnes Common yesterday, reading Peter Philpott's essay on the Post-Avant, Jim Goar's Death of King Arthur and Dale Smith's Even Slower Poetry Manifesto, an old dog (&her pet - hee hee) wombled past. The dog (the real one) carried in its mouth a battered, white ball. Not 6 ft from me I hear the owner utter, "Why are you carrying that old thing? I think you should leave it here for someone else to play with." The dog, full of loyalty, didn't listen and didn't abandon the ball. The first victory in the fight against abandoned balls. Hurrah!
